For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him. Jesus died one time-for all time! His work was completed! He overcame sin and death. Death was swallowed up in victory. Satan’s power was broken on the cross.
But I want you to understand something. Satan has been defeated, yet he is still dangerous. 1 Peter 5:8 says, “Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls like a roaring lion for someone to devour.” I know so many people who love the Lord. They are believers in Christ. They want to live for Him. Yet they are still dealing with giants in their lives. The good news is we are not left alone with nothing to fight with. James 4:7 tells us to “submit to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” We are to stand against temptation.
We are to lean into the all-sufficient One! By sufficient we mean that Jesus is enough. He is able! He is the overcomes! He is fully competent! He is the One who fights our battles. We are to align ourselves with the person and work of Jesus Christ. Yet, we have to remember it’s Christ who brings down the giants and not us! We still function like killing the giant is all on us. So many times in life we thank God for saving us, but we tell God I will take it from here. If we are to have real change in our lives. We need to understand our dependency on the all-sufficient Jesus. Our change is more about trusting and less on trying!
