More often than not, when God called people into His service, they resisted by coming up with a lot of excuses. This practice of resistance was in true even of the strongest and best leaders in the Bible.
Moses lead the group with multiple excuses! Moses said, “Who am I, no one will listen to me. I am not even a speaker. Lord, send someone else.” Read Exodus 3:11-4:10. Gideon in Judges 6:15 says, “I am nobody. I am the weakest in my family.” Solomon in 1 Kings 3:7 said, “I am only a child.” Jonah said nothing and ran away!
In contrast see the responses of Isaiah and Mary. When Isaiah was called he replied, “Here am I, Send me.” (Isaiah 6:8) Mary said, “I am the Lord’s servant. May it be to me as you have said.” (Luke 1:38)
We can come up with a number of excuses not to follow the calling of God. I have used a couple of good ones myself over the years. When God puts something on your heart don’t push it aside and pretend it’s no big deal. Follow your heart! Take time to build an alter and turn your focus to the One who is calling you.
Today is the day you stop resisting the Lord’s call on your life. Stop running and tell Him, “I surrender all.” Let the peace flow!!
