Psalms 119:105 says, “Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.” Lord, shine on our path today and we will give you praise!
The story of Peter walking on water is so rich and has so many truths that we can apply to our life. We saw yesterday that Peter got out of the boat and he begin to walk to Jesus. But in verse 30 he became fearful when he saw the wind. Can you relate to that? As a result of seeing the wind and giving into fear, Peter begin to sink in the water. As soon as Peter asked for help, Jesus was there! He reached out his hand to pull Peter up out of the water. Notice in verse 31 Jesus said to Peter, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?” In no way was Jesus being critical. In fact notice that this comment to Peter was said when they were alone in the water. Then they climb in the boat! Jesus gently helps Peter locate the source of his problem. For the first time in his life Peter understood his dependence on faith much more deeply than he would have if he had never left the boat. It was his willingness to risk failure that helped him to grow.
I have to be honest with you this morning. I hate to fail and I surly do not want to fail in front of others. The reality of life will slap us in the face and never apologize. We are all going to fail sooner or later in life. I don’t care who you are. But failure does not shape you, the way you respond to failure shapes you!
Jesus is whispering to you this morning it is ok. He we make it clear what you will need to do to grow. Yes, you have fallen but NOW it’s time to get up. Let’s get back in the boat and let’s get going! Peter sunk in the water but that didn’t define him. Peter made a difference in this world and we are still reading about him centuries later. Grab Jesus by the hand and continue the journey God has mapped out for you!
