David understood the stronghold of God well. David was a servant of God who had many enemies and was also being pursued by the hand of Saul. To say the least, David lived a life full of stress and anxiety. Yet David was able to sing this song to the Lord. Read Psalms 18:1-2, “I love you, O Lord, my strength. The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.” David had a living God that he could trust! When all of life was falling apart he ran to the One who held it all together. It was here, in the fortress of God, that David found his shelter.
How can we find that spiritual place? We simply begin by loving Jesus. I am sorry I can’t make that more complex or spiritually deep. John 14:21 says, “Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me. He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and show myself to him.” If we follow Christ in love and obedience, He will continue to reveal himself to us! God has so much to show us about Himself.
When life is falling apart, there is a place that you can find rest and protection. It’s in the presence, and love of a Holy God. Lord, bring us to your lap! Hold us to Your heart and assure us with the fullness of Your Spirit! Praise you Lord!
Enjoy you Hump Day!
