What a week! It is finally Friday and we have a three day weekend. God is good. All the time.
I want to encourage you to read John 13:1-11. Jesus, the very Son of God, changed leadership forever! He willing humbled himself and bathed his disciples feet. He took on the role of a servant. This has to blow His disciples out of the water.
This morning I want to focus on what was said afterwards. John 13:12-17 says, “When He has finished washing their feet, He put on His clothes and returned to His place. “Do you understand what I have done for you?” He asked them. “You call me Teacher and Lord, and rightly so, for that is what I am. Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash on another’s feet. I have set for you an example that you should do as I have done for you. I tell you the truth, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.”
I know the disciples hated it when Jesus started asking questions! Jesus asked them, “Do you understand what I have done for you?” This was a huge question for the disciples! Jesus just set the example of how we should live, and how we should invest our life into the lives of people around us. In our spiritual life we must first be willing to submit our life to God. This is the first and the most important decision we will ever make. The next part of this decision is submitting your life to God and letting Him control every aspect of your life! That’s right, every aspect of our life.
I have to ask you these questions to get you to stop and think. Does Jesus Christ have total control in your life? Is He Lord over your words, your money, thoughts, and your friendship? Are we willing to take on the role of a servant for people to see the love of Christ? Does your Friday nights lifestyle match your Sunday morning worship? He wants total control of the reins!
It seems so hard to just turn it all over to Him, but look what it says in verse 17! It says, “Now that you know these things, you will be blessed, if you do them.” What are you waiting for? Why do we run from the One who loves us the most?
