Good morning! It is Friday and Saturday is coming! I am looking forward to cutting the hedges, spending time with family, and celebrating my dad. Maybe I will scratch out trimming the hedges? Let’s dive in.
1 Peter 2:11-12 says this, “Dear friends, I urge you, as aliens and strangers in this world, to abstain from sinful desires, which wars against your soul. Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.”
I want to put this in the simplest form, “The Dennis version.” Friends, this world is not our home, so don’t get cozy! I am going to be honest with you this morning; I have had the big homes, pools, extravagant vacations, and it has left me empty. It left me wanting more and further in debt! The things of this world will pull you away from your first love, and distract you from you love relationship with Jesus Christ.
Revelation 2:4-5 says, “Yet I have this against you: You have forsaken your first love. Remember the height from which you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first.” Where is your focus, and what do you think about the most durning the day? Many of you are just like me! Over the years, we have allowed our sinful desires to control our money, time, and what we say is important to us. And our relationship with Christ has taken a back seat. Have we gotten to cozy with the world?
It’s time for His Church to repent! In other words: It’s time for us as believers in Jesus Christ to fall on our knees and say, “I am sorry, please forgive me from being distracted and more focused on the things of this world than You!”
What needs to change in your life? What is God calling you to let go? What has to happen for you to give God first place again? I want to encourage you to have an open conversation with Him this morning and get real with Him.
Return to that love relationship that gave you peace and true happiness! He is waiting! God, you are so good!
