Disturb Us, O Lord

Good morning! The weekend is just around the corner, but don’t wish your day away. This Friday, God is calling you to make a difference in someone’s life. Take time to encourage someone today.

I wanted you to look at something that I go back and read a couple of times a year by Sir Francis Drake. He wrote, “Disturb us, O Lord, when we are to well-pleased with ourselves; when our dreams have come true because we have dreamed to little, when we arrive safely because we have sailed to close to the shore. Disturb us, O Lord, when with the abundance of things we possess, we have lost our thirst for the Water of Life; having fallen in love with life, we cease to dream of eternity. And in our efforts to build a new earth, we allowed our vision of the new heaven to dim. Disturb us, O Lord, to dare more bodily, to venture on wider seas, where storms will show Your mastery; where losing sight of land, we shall find the stars. We ask you to push back the horizon of our hopes, and push us into the future with strength, courage, hope and love.”

It is so easy to get stuck in the rut of life. How many times do we get off track with our relationship with the Lord? So many things takes His rightful place and becomes our god! Shake us up God, disturb us O Lord. Help us not to forget who owns it all. What we call home is all temporary!

Lord help us to refocus and help us to dream big in you. I don’t want to shrink back but I want to grow in you. Give us a passion to know you more and a burned to make You known! Push away from the shore! God bless you and have a great Friday.
