Good morning! I am very reluctant to share this with you, but I know I should. I had someone to call me out yesterday and that someone was my wife, Laura. I don’t know about you, but it is never fun to be called out!
I consider myself and x-athlete! I use to be able to do some pretty cool things, but at the age of 52, one begins to loose that edge. But I still like to stay in descant shape. Laura and I try our best to get to the gym about 4 times a week. As you know, I have been doing a lot of traveling watching soccer, and it has wore me out. And we are not even halfway through the season! Being tired, I have skipped a couple of workouts this week. Have you ever been there? The more you skip the easier it gets to find something better to do! So I made up my mind early Friday morning, I am going to the gym. I brought my workout clothes to work and I was going to get on it right after work. The end of the work day came, and yes I changed into my workout clothes. I left work and was headed to the gym, but something happened when my turn to the gym came up! My truck keep going straight. Straight to my house! I was tired and I felt a need for a nap.
I got home and I put on a load of sheets and I took me a power nap. My phone begin to ring, it was Laura asking me to go by the store after I get finished with the gym. Well, I didn’t go to the gym but I started washing the sheets! That gave me an excuse to go home and skip the gym. So I thought. She then started saying, “You need to go to the gym and do something, or go for a walk at the house.” I was being called out and I didn’t like it! I became a little aggravated and tried my best to get her off the phone and finish my nap. I knew I should go and do something but I was already on the couch, and I was very tired, so I fell back asleep. I felt bad but, O well.
Then a few minutes later a text came across my phone from Laura. The text was encouraging, and then she said, “Meet me at the gym after I get off work. Then we can grab some food and go home.” To say the least, I was a little aggravated. I responded and said OK. I didn’t want to go but she called me out! I rode to the gym, meet her and we had a great workout! And I felt so much better and had so much more energy.
Proverbs 27:17 says, “As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.” Being called out like that is never fun, but we all need it at certain points in our lives! As a friend, we need to be able to speak truth in to each other’s lives. That is not always easy to do, and sometimes, it will not be received well. We all need friends like Laura! I sure wasn’t happy yesterday when I had to get my lazy butt off the couch. But she did it in love and she was very encouraging. Make sure you have those type friends in place! I pray God blessings over you today and I hope you have a great weekend!
