As we continue to look at Luke 7:1-10, I pray that God’s Word would come alive in your heart. Don’t be hesitant to dig deeper. In the story of the centurion and his great faith, there is an obvious truth. But, if we keep digging we will find another truth that will hit home. The Jews in Jesus’s day knew that only one person had ultimate authority over nature: God. God spoke creation into existence! In Luke 7:7 the centurion said, “Say the word, and my servant will be healed.” By claiming that Jesus could control the natural world by merely speaking, the centurion associated Jesus with the all-powerful Creator God. At Jesus’s word, just like God, creation would obey.
Luke 7:9 says, “When Jesus heard this, he was amazed at him.” Wow, did you catch that? Jesus, the Son of God, the Savior of my soul, the second person of the Trinity was amazed. He was amazed at great faith. The centurion placed his faith in Jesus, and confessed that all he needed was Jesus to speak, and his servant would be healed. In scripture, two things amazed Jesus: 1. Great faith. 2. Lack of faith. When Jesus looks at your life, what does he see? Does your life amaze Jesus? Just something to think about today! Have a great Monday!
