I have been a soccer dad for almost 17 years! Where does the time go? You always hear the horror stories of soccer moms, but I am here to say that soccer dads are just as bad! There have been times in heated games, that I wish I could take back how I reacted, or even things that I said. But as I look back, I can hold on to all the memories, fun times, the long trips, and the hotels stays. It was time well spent and I was blessed with great family time. I can tell you story after story about this wild ride as a soccer dad, but I won’t bore you with that this morning.
There is no telling how many soccer games I have watched,or how many miles I have driven to get there! But through it all nothing beats the early years of watching your kids fall in love with soccer, and seeing their eyes light up when they soccer their first goal! Or going to get gummy worms and Dr. Pepper after a game. But there were also those times when we lost, or got knocked down. It’s amazing what soccer has taught my girls about life! It’s not always going to be easy, and you are going to have to work for what you get.
As I close out, there was one thing that I would always yell out as I was sitting in the stands, “You got to want it!” I think that was my nice way of saying, “Stop being lazy and run!” But if you don’t desire it, you don’t want it. Man, that is truth! What is your hearts desire this morning? What are you passionate about? What drives you? You got to want it! Psalm 37:4-5 says, “Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your ways to the Lord; trust in Him and He will do this.” Desire the Lord, and seek His presence more than anything! You got to want it! God bless.
