Laura and I had a blast this week visiting friends, and family in Titusville, Florida! We just didn’t have enough time to see everybody, but we enjoyed every minute of it. I heard two great sermons yesterday, and I want to share one outline with you this morning. To God be the glory!
Proverbs 28:13 says, “You will never succeed in life if you try to hide your sins. Confess them and give them up; then God will show mercy to you.” Guilt will chew you up and spit you out! The great accuser will put a guilt trip on you and never look back. But here is the good news this morning; God forgives, and He shows us mercy for those who are in Christ! That is what I am talking about this morning! Here are 3 things we need to know about God’s forgiveness.
1. God forgives instantly! 1 John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all righteousness. You can take that to the bank. Thank you Lord.
2. God forgives freely! Ephesians 2:8-9 says, “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith, and this is not of yourselves, it is the gift of God, not of works, so that one can boast.” Romans 6:23 tells us this, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Jesus Christ or Lord.” Think about this; Both heaven and hell are full of people who are loved by God. The only difference is; the ones in heaven received what God freely gave!
3. God forgives completely. 1 John 2:1-2 says, “My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father-Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for our but also for the sins of the whole world.” Check out this good news in Jeremiah 31:34, “For I will forgive their wickedness and remember their sins no more.” Never forget, God is not mad at you, but He is mad about you! Don’t walk around cover with guilt, but know that you have been set free because of the blood of Jesus Christ! You are free indeed! God bless.
